#237 | Nov 2005

Hey Boomers!

Remember, remember the Fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot… Because it makes a great excuse to let off fireworks! So what better time to have the Syndicate saga start going out with a bang? But don’t think it’s going to be a simple finish- we’ve been having plot twists a-plenty since the Syndicate made their debut in #228, and we’re not stopping now! If you’re new to the strip, you better go to the Data Zone and get caught up! Sonic is back on Mobius, Knuckles is ready to regain the Chaos Emeralds, Shadow isn’t going to give up without a fight, there are explosions that would make Guy Fawkes proud- What are you waiting for?! The penultimate part of the Syndicate saga is here with Vendettas! Meanwhile, there’s dodgy goings on in the Metropolis Zone. Is Shortfuse really behind a chain of robberies and abductions? Can Tekno find out the truth in time? Find out in The Least Likely! This issue also sees the explosive debut of a brand new strip, Shenmue is the first strip to be based on a non-Sonic Sega game since Decap Attack ended in #132! Shenmue was a ground-breaking RPG back in the days of the Dreamcast, and this strip shows us how it all began. There will be more from Shenmue in future issues, so stay tuned! And if you’re wondering about what STC is going to do with the Shadow saga close to ending… Oh, ye of little faith! It’s not over until the fat Doctor sings, and just wait until you see what’s coming up after next issue…

The Story So Far…

The Syndicate planned to use the Chaos Emeralds to ignite all of Mobius’ residual Chaos Energy and destroy the planet! After making a deal with his old enemies in the Drakon Empire, Sonic gained the technology needed to prevent this apocalypse. Now with the Syndicate thwarted, Sonic prepares to bring them down- once and for all.
Sonic

Sonic

Sonic is the super-fast hero of Mobius and leads a gang of freedom fighters. He is totally committed to keeping Planet Mobius and its people safe, and he’s had enough of Shadow and the Syndicate’s genocidal plans…
Shadow

Shadow

A dark and sinister hedgehog created from Chaos Energy millennia ago and given shape from Sonic’s DNA. Shadow has complete control over Chaos Energy and a psychotic devotion to Robotnik’s will, making him a formidable foe. He’s already destroyed the Special Zone, and Mobius is next.
The Syndicate

The Syndicate

This sinister group of villains is responsible for reawakening Shadow, using him to gather the Chaos Emeralds. Under the command of the malignant cyborg Dr Zachary and composed of saboteur (and secret Drakon spy) Rouge, the insane Dr Robotnik and the mysterious Vichama, they planned to destroy the world.

Tails

Tails

Tails is an optimistic young fox who uses his two tails to fly for short periods. He idolises Sonic but has also become a respected hero in his own right – if only Sonic would notice!
Knuckles

Knuckles

Knuckles is the sole guardian of the Floating Island and its powerful Chaos Emeralds. He is willing to do whatever it takes to retrieve the Emeralds from the Syndicate, and is currently hidden on their Death Carrier skycraft…
Robotnik

Robotnik

A laboratory accident long ago turned the kindly Professor Kintobor into the evil Doctor Robotnik! Once a dictator, he is now mute and driven mad by defeat. As Kintobor, he was a friend and mentor to Shadow; as Robotnik, he has been re-united with him…
The Drakon Empire

The Drakon Empire

8000 years ago, the Drakon Empire – a race of fish who used their advanced intelligence to build robotic bodies to function on land – created Chaos Energy and battled the Echidna’s over the Emeralds that contained them. They gave Sonic a Chaos Tap device to stop the Syndicate’s plans- though they secretly plan to use this to invade Mobius in the future. The Drakon House of Knowledge has a spy – Rouge – in the Syndicate ranks.
The Chaotix Crew

The Chaotix Crew

Technology wizard Vector the Crocodile, super-strong Mighty, sneaky Espio the Chameleon and barmy Charmy Bee are Chaotix, former Guardians of the Special Zone. With the Zone destroyed by Shadow, they and the inter-dimensional sentient computer known as the Omni Viewer are stranded on Mobius.
Shorty the Squirrel

Shorty the Squirrel

Shorty is a hot-headed squirrel who was trapped in the armour of a Super-Badnik by Robotnik. With his stubborn personality, he was able to rebel and became one of Mobius’ premier heroes. He has been freed from his old armour and Tekno has built him a new one that he can put on & take off at will. Now he is the prime suspect in a series of abductions and robberies in the Metropolis Zone…
Tekno the Canary

Tekno the Canary

Tekno is a scientific genius who has a workshop in the Emerald Hill Zone. Her gadgets have saved Sonic’s life on many occasions, and she often teams-up with Amy or Shorty. Now she’s locked Shorty in her workshop while she tries to find out whether or not he is innocent…
Police Chief Bodger

Police Chief Bodger

Chief of the Metropolis Zone Police, Bodger is Mobius’ finest… in a parallel universe where everything is the opposite. In our world, he’s a well-meaning but bumbling figure, rarely seen without his trusty donuts. Can he nab the culprit behind the Cybernik crime-spree before Tekno? Well… no.
Ryo Hazuki

Ryo Hazuki

A quiet and determined young man in 1986 Japan, Ryo spends his days learning the Hazuki martial art style from his father in Yamanose. All he has to worry about is sorting out his feelings for local girl Nozomi- but that’s all about to change.
Lan Di

Lan Di

Nothing is known about Lan Di except that he is Chinese and very, very deadly…
